The Way it Works

January 12th, 2009

Now that you’re aquainted with the hands, it’s time to get to know the way the game is played. To start off, someone makes a bet. Most people understand this initial action in poker, but then get a little foggy with what happens after the bet has been made. What happens after that is everyone goes around the time either raising the bet, calling, or folding. There’s no need to elaborate on what is done once the bet is raised. The initial number gets heightened. Calling is where you’ve already made a bet and others have made a bet. If someone bet a dollar, and another person bet 10, and someone else bet 3 dollars, you bet the amount that matches these numbers. You would then bet on $14. When you fold, you’ve lost the chance to win. You cannot play any longer, due to poor hands, which pushes you into folding. Although you don’t win anything this time around, you also don’t lose anything.

Poker hands - Full House, Two Pair and Flash

December 19th, 2008

You can get many ‘hands’ and they will look nothing like the ones I will list below. However, to win, you are going to want to keep an eye out for the following. These are the most well known hands of poker:

Full house: a Full house is three of the same card, and then a two of the same cards. If you have a full house, what you’re looking at is maybe three Kings and two 4’s, or three 4’s and two Kings.

Two pair: You probably already know what this means. In your deck, you have two pairs of cards and then one that has nothing to do with the others. For a better visual, say you have four Queens and one 5. Or four Jacks and one 6. This would be considered a two pair.

Flush: A flush is where you have random numbering, but the symbol at the corner of the card is the same. Like if you have a King, an Ace, a 6, a 3 and a 10, but they are all diamonds, that would be considered a flush.

Poker Hands - Straight Flush and Four of a kind

You can get many ‘hands’ and they will look nothing like the ones I will list below. However, to win, you are going to want to keep an eye out for the following. These are the most well known hands of poker:

Straight Flush is like a diamond in African soil. You’re definitely playing this game off luck if you find your self amid a straight flush. To gain a better visual of what a straight flush is, picture your five cards gripped in your hands. What you’re looking at is a Queen, a King, an Ace, a Jack, and a ten. Or an Ace, 2, 3, 4, and a 5.

Four of a kind is just what the name says it is–four of a kind. Four of the same card in one hand. Like four 5’s, or four Jack’s. That would be considered ‘four of a kind’. If an opponent has a four of a kind at the same time you do, then the person who has the higher ranking cards win. Ex: One person has four Queens, and the other person has four Kings. The person with the Kings wins.

Poker Hands - A High Card and One level

October 10th, 2008

You can get many ‘hands’ and they will look nothing like the ones I will list below. However, to win, you are going to want to keep an eye out for the following. These are the most well known hands of poker:

A High Card: A high card may sound like something fancy, but basically, if no one has anything better than a pair, then the ‘high card’ will win. If you have a Queen, 7, 3, 2 or King, then the king would be considered the high card out of this hand. It can allow you to break ties in the game, and also get you a win. But a high card is nothing fancy.

One level: A pair is one level better than a high card–again, nothing like a straight flush which I’ll get to soon. Basically, if you have a pair of cards that are the same, this is considered a ‘pair’. 2 Aces will be a pair. Since you can’t get any higher than an Ace, if an opponent has a pair as well, you would beat them. The highest of the pairs wins.

Rules of Poker

September 6th, 2008

Poker is a game for the strategist, and because it’s obvious you can go far with poker (by turning it into a profession), for those who don’t know a thing about it, I will provide the unabridged version of the game. After seeing how so many people have already mastered poker, it may come as a more intimidating form of gambling at first. Don’t feel the slightest bit intimidated, because after seeing the simplcity in it, you’ll wonder why you never picked up on it before. Many players will tell you that if you want to be lucky, you must bet big and strong.
